HP the greenest company in America

Hewlett-Packard, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of computer related products, knows how important it is to offer products which use less natural resources and are more eco-friendly. They started the trend back in the 1970s, long before living a greener lifestyle was considered as important as it is today.  Between punch cards, laser printer cartridges, or ink cartridges, HP takes steps to cut back consumption in all areas. This is why Newsweek has named it the greenest company in America.

Their latest campaign strives to recycle as much as possible from ink printer cartridges, something that will save both resources and money in the long run. HP set a goal in 2007 to triple its use of recycled materials and this is a goal which they have already achieved. The full implementation of recycling ink cartridges should push them even further along their goal.

When ink cartridges are recycled, the empty cartridges are first sorted into categories before each category is completely shredded.  The largest components of the shredding include the plastic of the cartridge itself and the ink sponge inside. The sponge itself will be saved along with the plastic, which will be sent for refinement in a recycling plant. The new cartridges which are produced out of these materials contain 75% recycled material and can be reused up to 7 times for full efficiency. As you can imagine, this will easily help with cutting back and moving the world toward a more eco-friendly lifestyle without cutting back on our normal day-to-day functions.
