Off to the pumps we go

If you are currently in South Africa, you like me would´ve done a mad dash for the petrol pumps today. If you haven´t yet, make sure you head down to your nearest petrol station before midnight tonight. The petrol will be increasing by a massive 43c a litre from tomorrow.

This got me thinking, is in not criminal that we are still such slaves to oil. With what has been going on in Egypt and Libya and the threat of further unrest in the Middle East isn´t it about time that the government´s of the world start investing seriously in renewable energies or at least look at subsidising hybrid cars to ease our and the planet´s pain at the pumps.

In SA especially, we have enough sun to power the world´s cities which we told you about here, not to mention the amount of wind power we could generate through wind farming. I find it sickening that we are still so heavily reliant on oil in our everyday lives.

With an increase in the petrol price comes an increase in just about everything, especially food prices. In a country where poverty and unemployment is such a huge issue it just doesn´t make sense that we don´t invest more in these types of energies as doing so would create green collar jobs and thereby put food in the tummies of many South Africans.

What are your thoughts on the latest petrol price increase? Let me know if the comment section below.
