Yves Saint Laurent’s New Eco-Friendly Bag

“Green” is the new black in fashion and brands, big and small, are finding ways to produce pieces that are as beautiful as they are earth friendly.

The French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is adding to the growing number of eco-conscious fashion pieces with their Muse Two Artisanal Recycled handbag. It is a reworking of their popular Muse Two handbag except that this version was handcrafted by the women from Burkina Faso using recycled plastic bags and fair trade cotton. The technique of weaving recycled plastic bags with cotton was developed by the Gafreh Association with the help of Les Filles de Facteur, a non-profit group that supports women and children.

The Muse Two Artisanal Recycled bag, which retails for US$1,720, is available in a limited quantity of 60 worldwide. It is sold in key cities like New York, Paris and Hong Kong.

It is the perfect complement to the annual Yves Saint Laurent Edition New Vintage capsule collection of ready-to-wear and accessories made from unused fabric from the Yves Saint Laurent archives.
