Livia Firth Creates Eco-Friendly Dress Line

I love Livia Firth and admire her eco fashion principles and style. It would seem she must´ve been taking note of Avant Garde, judging by her latest project with Yoox.com 😉

Livia Giuggioli Firth, wife of English actor Colin Firth, is known for her commitment to eco-friendly fashion. As a part of her “Green Carpet Challenge 2011” Firth made the pledge to wear sustainable gowns when accompanying her husband on the red carpet.

Now she’s taken her dedication a step further, and actually created a line of environmentally-friendly party dresses. Firth teamed up with eco-friendly retailer Yooxygen (an offshoot of Yoox.com) and Reclaim to Wear, an organization that helps create upcycled fashions, to create the 1950s-inspired line.

Firth says her inspiration came from a dress that her mother bought when she was eight. The polka-dot, Grace Kelly-esque dress hangs in Firth’s closet today, more than 30 years later, and she opted to create a similar silhouette for her Yooxygen line.

“For Yoox.com, I decided to recreate a dress very similar in shape and spirit, a piece that suits every occasion and body shape,” she says.

The dress, which she debuted at the Venice Film Festival, features a strapless bodice and a polka-dotted full skirt, and comes in five colors. The frocks are made of fabric remnants and feature a blend of materials, including silk and wool, and are made by a non-profit organization in Firth’s native Italy called Cooperativa Rinascere, which helps disadvantaged people improve their work skills.

The dress, available here, retails for $832. Check out Firth discussing her design below:
