Stella McCartney shares why she wont use leather

Stella McCartney has launched an anti-leather campaign with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ahead of London Fashion Week. The campaign urges those attending LFW to not only shed fur but also leather with a viral video that exposes the skinning industry.

“As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don´t bleed; that´s why I avoid all animal skins”, says McCartney in the video. “Please join me in exploring the huge variety of fashionable shoes, belts, purses and wallets that aren´t the product of a cow´s violent death.”

The campaign was set to debut in Manhattan cabs for New York Fashion Week, but VeriFone Media, which places the cab ads, refused to allow Peta US to buy airtime, saying that ‘the screens run consumer promotions, not cautions’. However, the animal rights foundation will launch the video on fashion blogs, via tweets from its celebrity supporters, and on its Facebook page.

McCartney, who is showcasing a one-off collection during London Fashion Week, goes onto explain the facts about the skin trade and highlights the industry’s barbaric practices in the below viral video.
