How to choose the right skincare for your skin type

You’ve chosen skincare with natural, healthy ingredients but you’re still not achieving the results you wanted. Perhaps the problem is that you have not taken your skin type into consideration.

When shopping for skincare, give some thought to your skin type and choose products that will work with what you’ve got so that your skin blooms like a flower.

Here are some suggestions:

You have oily skin

The skin produces oils that keep your skin in good condition, but if your skin is producing too much oil then it can lead to enlarged pores, breakouts, acne and a course complexion.

What your skin needs: Avoid products that are alcohol-based because they can activate oil production. Derivatives of petroleum are also best skipped as they block pores and can cause pimples. Make sure you cleanse your skin daily with an alcohol-free toner before adding a light moisturiser to your skin. You definitely don’t want to slick on the heavy creams!

Try this: A great cleansing wash that’s vegan and contains natural ingredients is Kigelia Cleansing Wash. It deeply cleanses the skin and leaves it moisturised. It’s perfect for combination or oily skin types. You can purchase it here.

You have dry skin

Your skin feels tight, it’s prone to wrinkles and you might suffer from dry or flaky patches. Why? Your skin produces less oil, so it lacks moisture. It’s time to top it up!

What your skin needs: Bring on the thick, creamy products that will care for and hydrate your skin.

Try this: D1 Double Rose and Chamomile Day Moisturising Cream by The Victorian Garden. It contains organic rosehip and rose essential oil, along with Shea butter and Jojoba. This cream rehydrates the skin while boosting collagen and elasticity. Perfect for skin that feels tight and lacks vitality.

You have combination skin

Most people have combination skin, which means that their skin can be dry in some areas but oily in others. For instance, you might have dry skin on your forehead but oily skin on your chin.

What your skin needs: You should stick to products that are specifically tailored to combination skin, but if you suffer from ailments such as acne, use products that will deal with oily skin issues, too.

Try this: Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturiser. What’s great is that it’s suitable for oily or combination skin, it’s lightweight and also gives your skin a great matte finish. The moisturiser contains organic white grapes and pomegranate juice, mixed with aloe vera, sea algae and vitamins. It balances your skin’s natural moisture and prevents sheen.
