Make Your Own Perfume

make your own perfume

Smelling delicious is sure to put you in a good mood, but just what is in that fragrance you love so much? Be healthier and kinder to the earth by making your very own perfume!

Many fragrances on the market contain harmful ingredients that you shouldn’t be putting on your skin. Such toxic ingredients can be linked to allergy problems or hormonal disruptions that can lead to illnesses such as diabetes, various cancers or thyroid problems.

It’s much healthier to make your own perfume. Here’s how:

Choose Yummy Essential Oils

This is the fun part – you get to play around with different essential oils that you like. You can browse a variety of oils, such as peppermint, rose geranium and grapefruit, from Still Pure online. Still Pure helps farmers source the best plants to grow and monitors their farming practices to ensure that they are organically grown.

Put it in Glass

Once you’ve chosen all your scents, you’ll need a glass dropper and a glass bottle (with a lid) so that you can dispense the drops of your base note into the bottle.
The base note is the scent that stays on your skin the longest, so you should pick one that you’ll feel comfortable to have on you all day long. Great base notes include cinnamon, vanilla or patchouli. Add the other notes too, and take your time to make sure the scent is reaching harmony of all the essential oils.

Add Water and Alcohol

Now you’ll need 70ml pure alcohol (Vodka is always a good choice) and about two tablespoons of distilled water. Add these to the mixture of essential oils and shake it well to blend them all together. You can make your own distilled water by checking out this site. Although distilled water can be quite laborious to make, you shouldn’t have to sweat it out too much as you’ll only need two tablespoons of it to make your perfume.

Let it Set

Place the lid on the bottle and leave it in a cool, dark place for a few hours. After this time, check the scent and see how it’s doing. You can make corrections to it if you’re not satisfied by adding more essential oil. Then leave the fragrance to mature. When it has reached the point where you’re happy with it, pour it through a coffee filter into a perfume bottle. Now you can say you’ve created your own signature scent!
