The new Springbok rugby jersey was launched last night at an exclusive event in Cape Town.

So why are we talking about it? New kit supplier to the Springboks, Asics, have committed to manufacture at least 70% of it’s official supporter wear in South Africa thereby boosting the local manufacturing industry and providing much needed jobs. The official new Springbok rugby jersey for the players will pass through 49 pairs of  local manufacturer’s hands during the production process. Let’s just hope they are 49 ethical labourers hands.

Local is lekker

“We came to South Africa with the long-term view that we would use the SARU deal as a foundation for setting up ASICS in South Africa,” said Max Keen, ASICS Brand and Sports Marketing Manager.

“We believe that it is to everyone’s advantage if we produce the SARU merchandise locally.

“Our long term aim is that we develop South Africa as an ASICS manufacturing center of excellence for all our product ranges.”
