Chopard creates first ever "green" collection.

French Oscar-winning actress, Marion Cotillard, is said to be working with Chopard to create its first-ever “green” collection derived from ethically sourced colored gemstones. A prominent supporter of Greenpeace, Cotillard first dallied with ethical fashion at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where she stepped out in Fairmined baubles from Chopard’s collaboration with Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Collection. Cannes will once again loom large in Cotillard’s future: It’s expected to be the site of her line’s unveiling in May.

Cotillard has designed a bracelet and a necklace made with opals sourced from a family-owned mine in Australia.

“You design while thinking of the people who work on extracting the stones, so it’s a totally different energy,” Cotillard told WWD. “Why should the creation of dreams and luxury turn into a nightmare for the people who are providing the raw material?”

Chopard, which has been inching along its own sustainable journey, made history a year ago when it released the world’s first watch made with Fairmined-certified gold. It also presented last year’s Cannes winner with the first Fairmined Palme d’Or.
